Jucar's nymph

In this point of the Jucar riverside lives a beautiful nymph with a captivating voice. Legends tell that in the Middle Ages a young nobleman was hunting near the river when he heard a charming singing. He followed this sound and found out a beautiful girl sundrying her long hair. When they looked at each other, they fell in love. She told him she was a nymph and that he must give up his former life to be with her; the young nobleman accepted and never returned to his castle.

The valley of the anjanas

There are a lot of testimonies along History about sightings of anjanas in Herrerías Valley. Anjanas are the good faeries from Cantabria, North of Spain. They are beautiful, tall, dark-skinned, and with long brown hair, and some people say that they have wings. They wear long dresses covered by a cloak, and they also carry a colourful crook that they use to cure illness and diseases.

Fairy Chimneys in Cappadocia

Peris are the good faeries from Middle East, they are beautiful winged females with golden hair, bright eyes and pale skin. Persian tradition says that they are fallen angels who have to do penance on Earth, but they really live in Paristan, Middle East Fairyland. If you want to see a peri in the realm of mortals you should go to the valleys of Cappadocia, where there are a lot of conical rock formations called by humans "Peri bacalari" (fairy chimneys), due to peris live inside them.

The elves stone in Ljarskogar

Troller's Gill

Troller's Gill is a limestone gorge at the head of Trollerdale (Valley of Trolls), close to the village of Appletreewick in the Yorkshire Dales. Legend tells that this gorge is inhabited by trolls, as its name shows, but also by goblins, pixies, boggarts, gnomes and by the mythical monstrous black dog Barghest... so beware of this place!

The forest of fairy Melusine

Coulumbiers forest, in Lusignan, is inhabited by fairies. The most famous fairy of this forest is Melusine, cursed by her mother, the fairy Pressina, to become a serpent from feet to waist once a week. She would never fall in love until she found a man who agreed never to see her on that day. And this man was Count Raymond of Poitiers, who met Melusine in Coulombiers forest while she was dancing with other fairies. They got married, settled down in Lusignan, and got ten children who were born deformed.

Montseny, an enchanted forest

Popular beliefs talk about beautiful nymphs or dones d'aigua (water maidens) and follets (goblins) in this forest. There is a spring called Font de les Nàiades; some of these water maidens can transform into blackbirds. The follets use to open up barrels and finish off the wine reserves in the wine cellars of Montseny. But witches are also living here, as the names of some places show: La Torre de les Bruixes (the Tower of the Witches), El Pla de les Bruixes (The Plain of the Witches) or Can Bruix (The House of Witches).

Trollryggen, home of trolls

Trollryggen is the rigde constituting the Trolltindane mountains along the valley Romsdalen in Møre og Romsdal, Norway. The name Trollryggen means Troll ridge, and Trolltindane Troll peaks. The north face of the ridge is the famous Trollveggen (Troll Wall), the highest vertical cliff in Europe.
Legends tell that trolls live in this ridge; in fact, a legend says that Trolltindane mountains are a bridal procession of trolls turned to stone by the morning light.
